ECKHOF's History
Ecker-Eckhof is a family-run winery located in the idyllic village of Mitterstockstall.
The name "Eckhof" is derived from the location of the winery at a crossroads
(or "Ecke" in German), and the family name "Ecker".
The nationally and internationally recognized winery, with a vineyard area of 31 hectares,
is run by Bernhard Ecker and his wife Alexandra,
who continue in the spirit of Bernhard's parents, Johann and Marianne,
with the aim of producing honest, characterful wines.
The Eckers' loyalty to tradition is also reflected in the company's logo.
Johann Ecker, Bernhard's grandfather, was one of Stockstall's last "wine keepers" -
a traditional vineyard manager, also known as "Hiata" in Eastern Austria,
who guarded the grapes and the corridors between the vines.
The Hiata's icon was the so-called "guardian star",
and this "Hiata star" is an integral part of the Ecker logo.
We have been living wine
for generations.
Ecker-Eckhof is a third-generation winery, growing grapes and producing wine since 1580.
From 1848, following the peasants' liberation, until 1950, the family's small farm was located in Unterstockstall.
In 1950, Bernhard's grandfather Johann Ecker, born in 1920, moved from Unterstockstall to Mitterstockstall 25, the current location.
Bernhard Ecker was born in 1977.
His parents, Johann and Marianne, took over the mixed farm in 1980 and slowly converted it to a pure wine-growing farm.
In 1990, the gates of the Heuriger opened for the first time.
Shortly thereafter, Ecker-Eckhof became a founding member of the regional winegrower's association Wagramer Selektion,
further expanding the winery's importance to high quality wine production in the Wagram.
In 1998, Bernhard Ecker took over winemaking responsibilities, and despite his youth, in 2002 received his first high honor by winning two awards in the Grüner Veltliner category at a state-wide competition.
In 2003 their son Moritz was born, followed two years later by their son Lorenz.
In 2005, Bernhard took full control over the family winery and began renovating the cellar.
Their daughter Luise was born three years later, in 2008.
In 2009 the Heuriger was expanded by a further 50 seats with the addition of a modern, but cozy, sun room.
Between 2010 and 2018, the vineyard area was gradually expanded to 24 hectares.
Since 2015 Bernhard has been actively supported by his partner Alexandra.
In 2019, Ecker-Eckhof began the transition to organic farming.
In January 2022 daughter Emma was born and the wines from the 2022 vintage are now officially certified organic.
In 2023, Bernhard and Alexandra said "yes".
The foundations for the next generation have been laid.
